Sunday for lunch, I went to Yam Chops. But although they market themselves as a vegetarian butcher, I did not see slabs of tofu or tempeh (i.e., the equivalent to various cuts of meat). They did have frozen veggie burgers and sausages. Most of the bright space was packaged foods including vegan juices, sodas, ice cream, etc. There was also a good selection of prepared foods including stir-fried beef, tuna, coconut bacon and other animal substitutes. I ordered the chicken parmesan with salad ($10).
I appreciated the creamy dressing instead of the usual acidic vinaigrette, but the kale salad was essentially roughage. A work-out for the jaw for sure, but not much fun. The chicken was much tastier. It had a toothsomeness and weight that made it very meaty with good flavour from the breading and cheese. This was an excellent patty and not a poor compromise. However, compared to the substantial rice bowl at Urban Herbivore for the same price, this wasn't as filling.
